Practice Sessions

We invite all students and parents to participate in the practice sessions to perfect their recitation.

Week of April 12th – Group session about the grading rubric and how judges will grade each Surah, including common mistakes and Tajweed rules to pay attention to.

Week of April 19th – Individual practice sessions to help prepare students for their video submission.

Rules and Criteria

Rules and Criteria

  1. Competition is only open to Southern California Shia Muslims between the ages of 4 and 20.
  2. Participants must memorize their age appropriate Surah with proper pronunciation, tajweed, and recitation etiquette. Participants may opt at age category higher.
  3. Judges will evaluate each participants entry for:
    1. Recitation using proper etiquette
    2. Clarity and proper annunciation of Arabic sound
    3. Appropriate application of Tajweed rules and
    4. Overall pronunciation

4. Results will be announced on May 8th, 2021

Video Submission Guidelines:

  1. Record your video in landscape mode (not portrait)
  2. Observe appropriate Islamic attire.
  3. Record your submission in good lighting with your face and mouth clearly visible, for judging purposes.
  4. Your voice must be clearly heard with no background noise.
  5. Microphones may be used but voices may not be modified using computer software.
  6. Submissions must be made by 4/25/2021 11:59 pm PST.
