A Weekend of Service with Humility, Gratitude & One Ummah

On these very Blessed Nights of Layl-ul-Qadr and on the Commemoration of the Martyrdom of Ameer al-Momineen, the Shia Muslim Council and countless Muslim Organizations were out serving; serving the under-privileged and under-served. Humanitarian Day, organized by ILM Foundation and Coalition for Human Dignity has brought together Muslims from all different communities in the best way possible during the blessed month of Ramadan.

During the prophetic period, among the most important values stressed by the Prophet himself was to care for the less fortunate, “Be merciful to those on Earth, and the One in the Heavens will be merciful to you. This message was beautifully exhibited during these holiest days of Ramadan.

From Friday, May 24th to Sunday, May 26th, more than 1,500 homeless were served by the volunteers from SMC, Who is Hussain, Uplift Charity, UMMA Clinic, and many other prominent Muslim Organizations. Hygiene kits, toiletry essentials, socks, reading books, meals and snack packs were provided to the needy in Santa Ana, Long Beach and Skid Row in Downtown LA. Further, essential services such as HIV screening, health consultations, dental services, eye glasses, and foot examinations were also provided to the homeless.

Special thanks to Sister Samena Premjee from Who is Hussain OC Chapter and Brother Umar Hakim from ILM Foundation for making this a blessing for the volunteers and recipients. SMC’s volunteers came from across many centers in SoCal including Ahlul-Beyt Mosque, Jafaria Islamic Society, Fatimia Islamic Society, Zainabia Islamic Society, Islamic Education Center of OC, Shia Ithna-Asheri Islamic Jamaat of LA, Masjid Rasool, El Hussain Center, Yaseen Education Foundation, Masjid Al-Zahra,  Muslim Burial Organization of LA, and Who is Hussain
