On behalf of Shia Muslim Council of Southern California, we would like to announce that the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah is Monday, June 19th, 2023. There were multiple naked eyewitness accounts of the new moon sighting at sunset on Sunday, June 18th in Southern California. 

Key dates for the Month of Dhu al Hijjah:

• 7 Dhu al-Hijjah (June 25th):  Martyrdom of Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (p)
• 9 Dhu al-Hijjah (June 27th): Day of Arafah / Martyrdom of Muslim ibn Aqil (p) 
• 10 Dhu al-Hijjah (June 28th):  Eid al-Adha
• 15 Dhu al-Hijjah (July 3rd):  Birth of Imam Ali al-Naqi al-Hadi (p) 
• 18 Dhu al-Hijjah (July 6th):  Eid al-Ghadir
• 24 Dhu al-Hijjah (July 12th):  Day of Mubahila
