Eid-ul-Fitr: Tomorrow, June 15th, 2018

In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficient, the Most Merciful. Based on confirmed sightings of the new crescent across multiple cities in the U.S. on June 14, SMC announces Friday, June 15 as the day of Eid-ul-Fitr (1st of Shawwal 1439). (He desires) that you should complete the number (of fasts) and that you should exalt the greatness of Allah for His having guided you and that you may give thanks. (Al-Quran 2:185). With this ayat believers are beckoned to be thankful for His bounties as they complete yet another blessed month of fastingLet us exalt his greatness, as we look at the sky eager to sight the new crescent and reflect that like the stars we cannot even begin to count his abundant bounties.  So priceless are his gifts that we cannot even begin comprehending their value.  Undoubtedly the most priceless are His teachings that have come to us from the AhlulBait (AS),  that guide us on the steps of to success, here and in the Hereafter While all our days are filled with His bounties, the Eids are special days for celebrating our collective consciousness, for sustaining unity and for pondering and reflecting upon His bounties.  The paying of zakaatul fitra, Salaatul Eid, exchanging felicitations are all symbols of that very unifying essence – the brotherhood and fraternity of the community.  In that spirit we particularly crave your support in the efforts of the SMC to unite the Muslim Ummah and to serve the Community in their social and religious needs.  In this day and age, when Islam and Muslims have been put under a microscope by the rest of the world, it is all the more important that we demonstrate that Eid is indeed a day of peace.  This must be the underlying message to the world at large, as people try to enhance their understanding Islam and Muslims.  Our actions, not just words,  must reflect that we are resolute in our fight against any and all forms of injustice, tyranny and oppression. These values are universal and can not but strike responsive chords in the hearts of people of all faiths as we engage with them. As we go through this day of Eid, with happiness and joy having offered our deepest gratitude and thanks to Allah by paying the fitra and offering Salat-ul-Eid, let us remember the plight of millions of less fortunate people celebrating their Eid too.   As we gather in our blessed homes with our families let us remember the victims of oppression and tyranny, too numerous to mention in this strife filled era we live in.  As we hug our dear ones, let us feel the pain of those who lost their dear ones in the incessant killings of the innocents across the globe through terrorism, mass shootings other heinous acts of robbing our fellow human beings of the precious gift of life.   On behalf of all of us here at Shia Muslim Council Secretariat, we wish you all a happy and a joyous Eid-ul -Fitr.   Allow us to end this message with inspired words of Imam Imam Zainul Abedeen (A.S.)- “O Allah ! Bless us in the day of our Eid and our fast breaking and let it be the best day that has passed over us” – Sahifa Al-Sajjadiyya   Don’t forget, SMC is hosting its 3rd Annual Eid-ul-Fitr Picnic on June 24, 2018.
