Just as we recently saw in Las Vegas, such killers don’t represent any faith

The Shia Muslim Council of Southern California condemns the horrific killings of innocent people in Lower Manhattan, New York, on Tuesday, Oct. 31. We express our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who were mercilessly slain during this devastating event, killing eight innocent victims and injuring many more. By way of this statement, the Shia Muslim Council of Southern California joins with all Americans in calling for swift action to rid us of the evil of such wanton killings. Just as we recently saw in Las Vegas, these killers don’t represent any faith. They represent evil, and it’s critical for our fellow Americans to understand that. As we share our grief at this tragic moment, let’s unequivocally state that this face of terror can never be the face of any faith. It is as reprehensible as the vile attack in Las Vegas and must be regarded as such. As we continue to come to grips with yet another tragedy in our times, we are concerned about the potential of harassment and attacks that may emanate from unjustified anti-Muslim sentiments. America has millions of Muslims among its peace-loving citizens who make an incredibly valuable contribution to our country. We urge our fellow Americans to treat each other with respect and understanding and, at the same time, send a clear message to those who may be inclined to intimidate or harass others that such behavior doesn’t represent the best of America.
